Come Conservare il Caffè a Casa (e Mantenere Intatto il Suo Aroma)

How to Store Coffee at Home (and Keep Its Aroma Intact)

Coffee is alive.
It breathes, evolves, transforms… and unfortunately, if not stored properly, it quickly loses its most precious qualities: its scent, its aroma, its full-bodied flavor.

But a few simple and conscious gestures are enough to make the magic last.
Here are some tips from Torrefazione Grassi for storing your coffee in the best possible way.

1. 📦 Choose the right container

Forget the open bag left on the kitchen counter.
Coffee fears air, light, humidity and heat .

The golden rule : store your coffee in an airtight , opaque container, preferably made of dark glass , steel or ceramic.

Avoid cheap plastic: it can alter the taste over time.

🌡️ Keep it cool… but wisely

It's often thought that putting coffee in the refrigerator is a good idea. But if the package is open , it's best to avoid it: the refrigerator is a humid environment, full of odors that coffee can easily absorb, altering its aroma.

However, if the coffee is still sealed or stored in a quality airtight container —or in our aroma-preserving multilayer polyethylene bags—it can be stored in the refrigerator, especially in the warmer months, to protect it from excessive heat.

The important thing is to never expose it to air, light, or humidity once opened. If so, it's best to keep it in a cool, dry pantry.

3. ☕ Grind only what you need

If you use whole coffee beans, you're already one step ahead: beans retain their aromas much better than ground coffee.

The advice is to grind only the quantity needed at the time of use.
The difference, in the cup, is definitely noticeable.

⏳ 4. Consume within 20-25 days for perfect aroma

Roasted coffee, if stored properly, can last a long time without going bad.
But if you want to enjoy it at its fullest, with that intense aroma typical of freshly roasted coffee, we recommend consuming it within 20-25 days of opening .

Of course, if the coffee is kept tightly closed in an airtight container or in our polyethylene bags, it will continue to offer a good experience even afterward.
But the freshness, the real one, is felt in the first few weeks.

🎯 5. Pay attention to quantity

When you love coffee, it's easy to be tempted to stock up. You can certainly buy large quantities , especially if you can store it properly.

The secret to maintaining freshness and aroma, even with larger supplies, is to store it in airtight containers (like our bags) , away from light, air, heat and humidity.

However, for those who always want to enjoy a coffee with an intense and fragrant aromatic profile, we recommend consuming opened packs within 20-25 days.

For enthusiasts, this is also an opportunity to discover new flavors and rotate the blends frequently, like a little sensory adventure.

Coffee is like music: you don't have to listen to the same note over and over again.

💬 A little daily ritual

Storing coffee properly is a way to respect its history, its journey, and its roasting.
It's the first step to really enjoying it.
